Lean Basket

Lean Basket is a mobile application developed to enhance effectiveness on the shared laundromat system at private buildings and public laundromats.

The purpose of this project was to offer new alternatives on the laundry journey of users who do not have wash/ dryer machines inside their living unit.

My roles: UX/ UI, persona, journey mapping, user research/ data analysis, and low-fidelity wireframing.

Research collaborators: Henrique Morata (Electric Engineer), Yi-San Liu, and Laryssa de Souza.

Exploring the Problem

Doing laundry in shared spaces can be really challenging. From the process of getting ready to go to a basement or public laundromat with coin-operated machines, users have to gather many items for the journey. And all those items can be a lot to carry and deal with. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the country has been going through a coin shortage which also impacts the laundry activity in shared spaces.

In addition to that, there is no way to know if there are available machines or to track the end of the washing/ drying cycles in order to save time and make the process more efficient.

Problem for whom?

Persona and Journey Map

Meet Damian Smith!

User Research

Method: 1:1 Interview

12 people interviewed

The research goal is to assess the steps followed by the target when doing laundry as well as its feelings, actions, and resources needed for the process. That way we can understand at what level the problem identified impacts our target.

Main Features

After studying the findings of our industry and customer research, and considering Damian’s persona and the pain points through his journey, we outlined the main features our application MUST have.

Coin shortage

The app offers an online payment feature, that is connected to the laundromat establishments that uses Lean Basket App, eliminating the need of users to bring coins.

Machines’ Mainentance

A section where users can give feedback on overall service, leaving comments about their experience, and also allowing them to indicate machines that need repair.

Journey Preparation

When planning a laundry trip, users can receive reminders with a checklist of things they need to bring. The list can be customized, so users can fit it to their habits and needs.

Machines Availability

A section where users can check how many machines are available and that also allows checking previous reservations of washers and dryers.
