rnwIT APP
renewIT is a mobile application that combines three products: an upcycled products shop, a customizable upcycled products shop, and clothing goods donation.
The purpose of this project was to address the problem of fabric waste, presenting an alternative to extend the life cycle of clothing items no longer needed.
My roles: UX/ UI, persona, journey mapping, user research/ research data analysis, low-fidelity wireframing, and prototyping.
Research collaborators: Priyanka Shankar, Fan Zhang, and Subom Okewondo
Understanding the Problem
An average person buys 60% more items of clothing every year and keeps them for half as long as 15 years or more in some cases, generating a huge amount of waste. However, the major problem is that people don’t realize how much recyclable material is thrown out every day.
Annually, a person throws out an average of 80 pounds of clothes and shoes. All that textile waste ends up in landfills or incinerators where it breaks down and emits greenhouse gases and releases chemicals into the ground and atmosphere.
Are fabrics recyclable?
Yes, they are. However, there are many steps to be completed to meet health and hygiene requirements. Which makes the process way too long, costly, and very complicated.
In that case, we decided to explore another sustainable alternative: UPCYCLING
What does upcycle mean?
